The Minnesota Department of Education reports that third-grade students at Cleveland Elementary School had the greatest participation in the mathematics section of the 2024-25 MCA.
In total, 224 students at Cleveland Elementary School completed the mathematics portion, with 61 of them in third grade.
According to test standards, 67% of third-graders scored at or above proficiency in mathematics.
The MCA and the Alternate Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (Alt MCA) serve as statewide tests designed to evaluate student progress toward Minnesota’s academic benchmarks and fulfill legislative requirements at both federal and state levels. The assessments include math, reading, and science, depending on grade. While most students sit for the MCA, those who qualify for special education services may take the Alt MCA.
Minnesota’s Report Card indicates that overall proficiency on Minnesota’s MCA exams has declined when compared to pre-pandemic years. For instance, mathematics proficiency saw a decrease exceeding 7% since 2019, while reading proficiency dropped by nearly 5%.
| Grade | # of Students Tested | Proficiency in mathematics |

| 3rd | 61 | 67% |
| 4th | 62 | 52% |
| 5th | 51 | 53% |
