The Wright County License Center will be hosting a REAL ID information session from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29 at Room 1103 of the Wright County Government Center (3650 Braddock Ave. NE, Buffalo).
REAL ID has been delayed from implementation several times, the most recent being during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, but is scheduled to finally take effect May 3, 2023. On that date, anyone boarding an airplane or entering a federal building will be required to have REAL ID or a valid passport.
License Center staff will be on site to answer questions, discuss different license options, check customer documentation and set up appointments for future service. A passport agent will also be available for questions regarding the passport option in lieu of REAL ID.
Because all driver’s licenses are run through state software systems, the official application process for REAL ID has to be done during regular business hours (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday), no applications can be processed during the information session, but those attending can bring the required documentation needed for REAL ID and assure that their documentation is complete and can be quickly handled when the time comes to upgrade to REAL ID.
