Cardinals fall to Fillmore Central

The No. 12 seeded Bethlehem Academy boys basketball team saw their season come to a close on Thursday night following a close 61-57 loss to the No. 5 seeded Fillmore Central.

According to head coach Ed Friesen, the Cardinals were able to hold small leads over Fillmore Central, but missed out on some late buckets that helped the Falcons pull ahead.

Bethlehem Academy weren’t able to play with the likes of Hudson Dillon and Aaron Huerta due to fouling out. Some late 3-pointers from Trey Gaytan and Charlie King kept the Cardinals in it, but they just weren’t able to overcome the higher-seeded Falcons.

King led the team with team-highs 19 points and 15 rebounds, while Gaytan and Dillon finished in double figures with 14 points and 11 points respectively. Huerta added eight points and Zach Donkers added five points.

With the loss, the Cardinals are forced to depart from their senior class of Trey Gaytan, Charlie King, Zach Donkers, Kyle Ernste, Jarrett Ayala and Evan Nichols.

“These seniors played their hearts out,” Friesen said. “They will have no regrets about how they ended their high school careers. They leave big shoes for us to fill next year. We will miss them.”
