Pam Altendorf, a Minnesota state representative, made several posts on X in mid-October 2025 raising concerns about Minnesota’s election laws and the involvement of non-citizens in voting. Altendorf’s tweets focused on claims regarding the state’s Department of Public Safety and Secretary of State (SOS) office, referencing a public exchange with Patti Anderson, a former Minnesota state auditor.
On October 15, 2025, Altendorf wrote: " “The answer is YES” @pattiandersonmn Asking questions and getting the SOS office to admit illegal immigrants can use their MN Driver’s License and VOTE now."
Later that day, she continued: "MN Elections Getting National attention! Need Federal investigations!!! @pattiandersonmn questioning the MN SOS office and them admitting illegal immigrants vote with their DL for all prioritized and passed by the @MinnesotaDFL trifecta in 2023!"
On October 16, Altendorf posted about a separate national issue: "Democrats are the only ones who can end the #SchumerShutdown".
Altendorf’s tweets referenced legislative changes enacted by the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party during its control of the state government in 2023. In that year, Minnesota passed legislation allowing undocumented immigrants to obtain standard driver’s licenses. However, under both federal and state law, non-citizens are prohibited from voting in federal and state elections. The new law does not change voter eligibility requirements. The Department of Public Safety states that driver’s licenses issued to undocumented immigrants are not valid for federal identification purposes or for voter registration.
Her reference to the “Schumer Shutdown” pertains to federal budget negotiations. The term has been used in political rhetoric to describe government shutdowns attributed to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. In October 2023, Congress passed a short-term funding bill to avert a shutdown, with debates ongoing about longer-term funding solutions.
