On May 11, Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08) introduced the Superior National Forest Restoration Act and held a legislative hearing in the Energy and Mineral Resources Subcommittee on overturning the Biden Administration’s mineral withdrawal of 225,000 acres of the Superior National Forest.
“The Biden Administration’s mineral withdrawal in the Superior National Forest was a direct attack on our mining way of life in northern Minnesota,” said Congressman Stauber. “All options are on the table to overturn this withdrawal, including the Superior National Forest Restoration Act which would also reinstate mineral leases in the area granted prior to January 2021 and ensure timely reviews of Mine Plans of Operation. Today, in my Energy and Mineral Resources Subcommittee, we heard from witnesses about the importance of mining in the region, and now it’s time for us to take action to get shovels in the ground.”
