CITY OF FARIBAULT: Filing Period For Local Office Open Through June 2

City of Faribault issued the following announcement on May 21.

Notice is hereby given, pursuant to MN Statute 204B.33, that a General Election will be held in Faribault, MN, on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, for the purpose of electing candidates for the offices listed below. The filing period for these offices begins at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 and ends at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, 2020. Note: City Hall will be closed Monday, May 25, 2020, in observance of Memorial Day.

Candidates may file in person or by mail, if the filing is received during the filing period, 208 NW 1st Avenue, Faribault MN, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Please be aware that restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic may affect some of the filing processes.  Appointments may be required or alternative methods of filing may be needed.  Please contact Heather Slechta via email at hslechta@ci.faribault.mn.us or via phone at 507-333-0353, to discuss possible alternate arrangements for filing before coming to City Hall.  

Candidates who will be absent from the state during the filing period and meet the requirements of Minnesota Statutes section 204B.09, subdivision 1a, may arrange to file during the seven days immediately preceding the candidate’s absence from the state. 

A primary election shall be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2020, for any municipal office listed below where more than two persons file for nomination.  If no more than two persons file for nomination, their names shall not be placed on the primary ballot and shall be placed on the general election ballot as the nominees for that office.

A candidate may withdraw from the election by filing an affidavit of withdrawal with the City Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. two days after the last day for filing affidavits of candidacy. Thereafter, no candidate may file an affidavit of withdrawal.

Mayor (four-year term) 

Three City Council Members (four-year terms)

This notice is sent based on current law. Be aware that the Legislature and/or the Governor may take actions that could affect some of these processes due to the COVID-19 situation. Candidate information may be obtained from the Administration Department at City Hall in person or by calling 507.333.0353.
